Everything possible was dona to have things ready (or the rush. Shipments of flowers from the growers have been light, and yet there were quantities of roses, particularly pink, to be had at the buyer's figures. The quality of the rose stock for Christ- mas delivery is fine in all grades and prices favor the buyer. At this writ- ing (December 22j, the commission houses report working the entire force all day on out of town orders and that prospects for a full holiday business are very good. American Beauties are in fair supply for the holiday demand at $1 a bud for the specials. Rich- monds are seen in rather larger quan- tity than usual and of very fine quali- ty. A grower from near Boston can- vassed this city with four-foot stemmed Rlchmonds at a price of 75 cents which has been considered by the retailers a rather stiff figure. All the fancies, particularly Sunburst, Hillingdon and Taft, are in good demand. Carnations are scarce and prices hold firm, good red bringing .$1G. Gardenias are scarc- er or else the demand has forced the prices up, 50 cents being asked for good stock. There is a fair supply of cattleyas with no great advance In price. A splendid supply of valley is offered, the best in quality seen this season, with little if any advance in price. Japanese lilies have been added to the market's assortment and find a good sale. Violets have not been overly plentiful, but to judge from the crops of the past ten
