Island of Mogadore, 1844. Sailing boats at Mogador Island, near Essaouira in Morocco, '...viewed from the fortifications of the city. The tower in the foreground is the powder bastion, and the battery adjoining, on which the Moors prided themselves, as they were mounted with brass guns. On the island are seen a mosque and two batteries, the only two buildings of importance. The fortified rocks on the right form the channel of the harbour to the south'.
