With sucha variety of habitat, the food of the speciesnaturally varies considerably. About three-fourths of its diet consists of the seeds ofnoxious weeds and one-fourth of insects. Ofthese, beetles, especially weevils, constitute themajor portion. Ants, wasps, bugs (includingthe black olive scale), and caterpillars are alsoeaten.
