The battleship USS IOWA (BB-61) is silhouetted by the setting sun as it sits at anchor in its home port. The ship returned to Norfolk following an explosion in its No. 2 16-inch gun turret which killed 47 crew members on April 19th. The explosion occurred as the IOWA was conducting routine gunnery exercises approximately 300 miles northeast of Puerto Rico.
