A sculptured water fountain modelled on two Dutch ships, Heemskerk and Zeehaven in Salamanca Square in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. The fountain is named after the Heemskerk and Zeehaven when they first arrived at Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) on 24th November 1642. On board was Abel Tasman who named his discovery Van Diemens Land, after Antonio van Diemen who was Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies Salamanca Square is the cultural, historical hub of Hobart offering dinning, cafe's, entertainment & shopping. Salamanca is named after the Battle of Salamanca, a city in the Spanish province of Salamanca, Spain. Salamanca fell to the Duke of Wellington’s armies in 1812.
