Lateral line rather inconspicuous, containing between 40 and 50 scales; about 6 scales between lateral line and origin of dorsal, and 6 or 7 between it and ven- tral. Greatest length of head from tip of projecting lower jaw a little more than i that of body, or 2^ times in length of snout; lower jaw projecting beyond tip of snout a distance equal to i length of suoiit. Orbit nearly equal to snout, and about i length of head; width of inter- orbital space 2 in orbit.
