Soman nerve agent, molecular model. Soman, also known as GD, is a nerve agent used in chemical warfare. It acts as a neurotoxin by inhibiting cholinesterase enzymes needed for maintaining normal functioning of nerve cells. Soman's chemical formula is C7H16FOP. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (C, grey), hydrogen (H, turquoise), fluorine (F, green), oxygen (O, red) and phosphorus (P, orange).
