Traditional gaff rigged boat on The River Vilaine, Brittany on its way to the chestnut festival. In the Redon area, October is a month for celebration. A fair devoted to the chestnut, the poor man's potato, is held every year in Redon, which became known as Teillouse during the French Revolution. This fair evokes a long-gone era when farmers were able to make their fortune from the wood and fruit of the chestnut tree. The fair organisers decided to incorporate a cultural element, the Bogue d'Or, a singing, musical and storytelling festival.
