Mr. Fawkes owned a number ofinteresting relics of the Civil War—the hat, watch,and sword worn by at the battle ofMarston Moor, swords used by Sir Thomas Fairfaxand Lambert, and other historical , to oblige his friend, made a very curiousand ingenious drawing of thecabinet at Farnley in whichthese relics were kept. Whenone first looks at the drawingit seems to represent only ahandsome oak cabinet, butthe doors are made to swingopen and disclose a carefullypainted view of all the anti-quarian treasures storedwithin. Another curiousdrawing represents a docu-ment dated May 12, 1626,which was addressed toThomas Fawkes, Esq., theowner of Farnley Hall atthat time. It is one of thoseinstruments called Benev
