Necropsy.—Slightly increased redness of the duodenum, and slight pur-gation. Result of Experiment with Juglandin.—It is a mild hepatic stimulant and amild purgative, and seems eminently worthy of the attention of the physiciansof this country. Action of Benzoic Acid and its Compounds. Benzoic acid is said to act as a stimulant of the system generally, andparticularly of the kidneys, mucous membrane of the bladder, and bronchialglands. It is nowhere stated to be a cholagogue. Yet it is sometimes usedempirically in hepatic affections. Tanner, in his Practice of Medicine, recom-mends ammonium benzoat
