Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1892) served as Poet Laureate for Great Britain and Ireland during much of Queen Victoria's reign. Among his best known works are: Break Break Break, The Charge of the Light Brigade, Tears Idle Tears, Crossing the Bar, and Idylls of the Kings. This illustration dates to 1913 and is based on a painting by Tennyson's contemporary, the British artist Lord Frederick Leighton.
