View of early morning light on hoodoos as seen from the Sunset Point overlook in Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah USA
Famous for its spires, known as “hoodoos,” Bryce Canyon National Park reveals a geologic story of limestone worn away by ice into a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters carved from the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau in southern Utah. The uniqueness of the colorfully carved rocks caused Bryce Canyon to be designated as a national park in 1924. Hiking trails wind through a wondrous landscape of mazes made of spires and whimsically arranged rocks of spectacular colors, making Bryce Canyon a hiker’s paradise. Over 100 species of birds, dozens of mammals, and more than a thousand plant species are located within the canyon's boundaries.
