Iheya Shima Carry-All. A native girl, carrying her baby brother in a harness on her back in traditional fashion, follows alongside a line of amtracs carrying members of the second Marine Division ashore in the capture of Iheya Shima. Scrambling ashore in these armored amphibious tractors and from Coast Guard landing craft, the Marines encountered negligible opposition in the seizure of this 17th island in the Okinawa group. Capture of Iheya Shima, 25 miles northwest of Okinawa itself, was announced this week by Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.
