The Imperial War Museum North, opened in 2002 and designed by architect, Daniel Libeskind, is based on the concept of a globe shattered by conflict and re-assembled into shards representing earth, air and water. The 55m Air Shard has a viewing platform at the top reached by stairs and lift. An internal view of the Air Shard from the stairs to the viewing balcony.
