Wreath and floral arrangement commemorating Quintinshill rail disaster on display at Carlisle railway station, Cumbria UK


On 21 May 2015 a ceremony was held at Carlisle railway station to commemorate those who lost their lives in the Quintinshill rail disaster at Gretna, on 22 May 1915. Over 200 people perished, including a significant number of soldiers from the Royal Scots regiment, who were en route to fight at Gallipoli. Civilians and railway workers also,lost their lives, including those from Carlisle, which had close connections with the rail industry. After the ceremony, this floral memorial was displayed at the station on the main concourse. It was positioned against a glass wall near the station entrance, and the station is reflected in the glass behind it.
