Waterloo passengers using moving walkway on the Jubilee Line Extension, the newest part of London Underground's Tube network.
A travelator or moving walkway is a horizontal escalator with a safety handrail that carries passengers, slowing down at entry and exit points for easy access and egress. They are often installed at railway stations and airports where passengers are required to walk considerable distances along concourses between different parts of the system and may be carrying heavy luggage. The walkways are usually installed in pairs, one for each direction. The Jubilee Line covers ( miles) and serves 27 stations between Stanmore and Stratford. The equivalent statistic for the new extended section is 16km (10 miles) of which km ( miles) is in tunnel and km ( miles) on the surface. Work started on the £ billion project to extend the Jubilee line in December 1993. The extension runs from Green Park to Stratford and was opened in three phases during 1999.
