John Hall, t'ormer secretary of the American Association of Nurserymen and a man of unusual prominence in liorticultural circles, died at his home, in Detroit, Mich., Friday, December 22, at the age of 77 years. Mr. Hail was l)orn in England and came to America in the late 60's, settling at Rochester, N. Y., in 1872. Soon after this he be- came associated with James Vick, the famous seedsman, and had a large share in the develojtment of that business. For more than forty years Mr. Hall served as secretary of the Western New York Horticultural Society and was a great factor in building up that or- ganization. During liis long residence in Kochester, Mr. Hall served several terms as park commissioner, in which capacity iiis extensive knowledge of ]>lant8 and trees was of the greatest value in building u]) the city's system of jtarks ;ind playgrounds. During his entire life, ^Ir. Hall was identified with the Methodist church. As a trustee in the Monroe avenue and Asl)ury avenue churches, superintendent of the Sunday school and director of music, his activities lirought him into contact with thousands of iteojile in his home city, l)y whom he was held in the highest esteem. About four years ago Mr. and Mrs. TIall went to Detroit to make their liome with a son, Harry S. Hall, a manu- facturer in that 4'ity.
