This course is in addition to the general course in chemistryreceived by students in this department, and covers the groundoutlined as follows, viz.: Physical and chemical nature of the cotton fiber; action ofvarious chemicals on the fiber; preparation and application ofvarious chemicals used as mordants; natural and artificial color-ing matters; scouring and bleaching; dyeing of raw stock, roving,yarn and cloth; study of commercial dye-stuffs and determinationof their commercial value; color matching. This course is intendedto give the student a thorough knowledge of the underlying prin-ciples of dyeing. The school has a thoroughly equipped dye-house, and thestudent obtains a practical as well as a theoretical knowledge ofthe above subjects.
