Bembridge, Isle of Wight, UK. 27th November, 2015. A controlled explosion of a 1,500lb German mine off the Isle of Wight coast sent shockwaves through the East Wight this morning, causing residents to fear an earthquake was about to strike. At around 10:55 the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team blew up a World War II mine around 1 mile off Bembridge after the bomb was found on the seabed near to Spitbank Fort during dredging works in and around Portsmouth Harbour.
