The majestic Mount Etna dominates the north-east landscape of Sicily, between Messina and Catania This iconic 3,300m stratovolcano is highly active, often scarily so. This shot was taken about halfway up the peak, about the highest you can go without being a semi-serious climber or volcanologist. It's as far as the cable car goes, and this is what you can see staring down into the thick fog.
