Considerable time, however, elapsedbefore the iiltimate arrangements necessary to carryit into execution were made. The first act was ob-tained in the month of June, 1809, and incorporatedthe proprietors under the name of the Strand BridgeCompany, empowering them to raise the sum of£500,000 in transferrable shares of £100 each; andthe further sum of £300,000, by the issuing newshares, or by mortgage, in case it should be foundnecessary. In July, 1813, a second act was passed,enabling them to raise an additional sum of £200,000;and in July, 1816, a third act was obtained, grantingthe company further powers,
