Egypt, theTemple of Luxor, two seated statues of Rameses II guard the entrance (first pylon) to Luxor Temple, there used tobe six. The pylon is decorated with scenes of the Battle of Kadesh (which ended in the first known peace treaty) as well as scenes put there by later emperors. Construction work began in the 14th century BC under Amenhotep III (Akhenaten) Horemheb and Tutankhamun added statues and friezes, but Rameses II made the major expansion some 100 years later.
