The annals and magazine of natural history : zoology, botany, and geology. e from which the specimenswere taken is situated at an altitude of 6000 feet above sea-level and drains into the Yang-tze river-system. No speciesof Potamouidaj appear to have been recorded from this part ofYunnan, although Wood-Mason described throe species ofPotamon from Western Yunnan, a district belonging to theriver-system of the Irawady. 156 Dr. W. T. Caiman on a Paratlielphisa spinesceris, sp. four fifths as long as broad, the greatest breadtha little in front of the middle, only slightly convex antero-posteriorly and from side to side. Surface smooth ^ andpolished, with very minute punctuations. The inter-regionalgrooves nearly obsolete, the median portion of the cervicalgroove not extending beyond the branchio-cardiac grooves oneach side. The distance between the external orbital anglesis a little less than two thirds of the greatest breadth. ^ Thefront is rather steeply deflexed, with the margin slightlyeverted, extending a ^little in front of the external orbital. Parathelphusa spincsccns, J angles as seen from above, with a distinct and moderatelydeep median notch. Seen from in front it is convex. Thetransverse diameter of the orbit is equal to half the width ofthe frontal margin. The frontal margin and the upper orbitalmargin are granulated. The lower orbital margin is moredistinctly granulated than the upper; its inner angle is notproduced, but there is a prominent, rounded, internal sub-orbital lobe. The postfrontal crest is nearly obsolete. It isonly represented by the obscurely defined epigastric lobes, which are very slightly rugose in front and are separated bya shallow mesogastric furrow, showing only in one specimena trace of bifurcation. The antero-later^l margin is convex and h about as long new River-Crah from Yunnan. 157 as the postero-lateral. The extra-orbital tooth is flattened, with a slightly convex and minutely serrate outer edge. Itis followed by fiv
