Canopic jar, Third Intermediate Period, Kushite, Dynasty 25, ca. 712–664 , From Egypt, Upper Egypt, Thebes, Khokha, Tomb of Aafenmut, Pit 1 (Pakherenkhonsu and Heresenes), 1914–15 (White), Limestone, H. (with lid) cm (12 5/16 in.); Greatest diam. cm (5 1/4 in.), A set of four canopic jars was an important element of the burial in most periods of Ancient Egyptian history. Canopic jars were containers in which the separately mummified organs would be placed. The best known versions of these jars have lids in the shape of the heads of protective deities called the four Sons of Horus
