The saving in the lubricant used on the car journals isabout 85 per cent. The ball-bearing journals can besealed so that there is no leakage out of the journalbox, and it is not necessary to lubricate the bearingsmore often than once in three months. The reason for the reduced friction of ball bearingsis that they substitute rolling action for the rubbing.
