Contrary to the usual practicewhich has descended from the days of the horse car, theCalgary Street Railway has to assume no responsibilityfor the care of the pavement between the tracks exceptfor the sub-base, which consists of 4 in. of track work consists of 60-lb. and 80-lb. LorainSteel Company rails, with 6-in. and 7-in. sections, whichare laid on ties, spaced 4 ft. apart and thoroughlygrouted in cement. The rails are bonded with doublecompressed bonds. All special work is of manganesesteel supplied by the United Steel Company and Had-fields, Manchester, England. Overhead wires are usedexclusively except in the business section
