The breeding cycle of the Blister Beetle, a member of the family Meloidae, so called for their defensive secretion of the blistering agent, cantharidin. The larvae are insectivorous, and when the meloid larva enters a cell in the hive, it apparently consumes an egg along with its provisions (honey), to leave when mature.
