Many contests have beenwaged between the Spiders, by which name the Rich-mond College teams are known, and the Yellow Jackets,which appellation is applied to Randolph-Macon, and thepalm of victory has flitted back and forth during the years. Encouraged by the rapid growth of the college, the PhiGamma Delta Fraternity installed a chapter in 1890, andPi Kappa Alpha followed in 1891.
