After bolting the dragstogether, the copes are put on the sameas on any other molds, clamped togetheror bolted as the case may be. As wehave already shown, no attempt wasmade to have a qaurter of the hub oneach blade. Enough to give an outlineof it was sufficient. A block of wood of guard against any possibility of a runout. A runner basin is built on top andleading over to one side for conveniencein pouring. Each blade, I should havementioned, has a flow off riser to it sothat the hard pouring which is necessaryto make a casting of this kind run sharpwill not cause it to be strained. Therunner is kept full right to the finish, and then when pouring ceases the riserschain the Fjg. 2.—Iron base on which molds are side shows blade pattern. This is continuedaround the four of them, after whicha blow torch or some other kind of afire is used to dry these parts. It willbe understood that the spindle and pat-tern were removed after they had servedtheir purpose. Another point which 1have neglected to mention was the topand bottjm of the hub. These are madethe same as on a fly wheel iby using acore box and making a flat, round corewith a print to receive the centre core. The bottom one is really the first movein beginning the mold. It has a holethrough it for the spindle, and all theflasks are assembled over this core. Thetop one is the same as the bottom, buthas openings for the gates, if it is to begated on the hub. Gating a propellor is always done atthe hub, but t
