It is claimed that the strike will extend to thelines of the Brooklyn Elevated Railway company. The con-tract between the Kings County Elevated Railway companyand its employes is such that it is believed there can be nostrike on that line. The companies expected that the men would go out anddetermined to anticipate them. They asked the electricians,about 1,000 in number, if they would take out the one of tHem refused, and they were then told therewas no work for them. One foreman was asked if he waswilling to take out a car. He refused, and was the only. the winter months. The electrical equipment on each carconsists of a fifty horse power Sperry flexibly connectedmotor and a Sperry electric brake. Views of this train areshown in Figs, i and 2. The power plant, Figs, i and 3, is located in a spaciousbuilding especially planned for the addition of other ma-chines. At present it consists of one 300 kilowatt GeneralElectric generator and a 450 horse power tandem cross-connected Corliss engine of the Bates Machine com-panys make. Two Root boilers of 600 horse powercapacity furnish (he steam. -The arrangement of the boilerroom is such that coal can be unloaded directly from thecars to the furnaces, and as the plant is located directly on arailroad running to the coal fields of Illinois and Indianathe cost of fuel is reduced to a minimum. A plan of thewhole plant is given in Fig. 4. The buildings, which are centrally located with respect tothe territory through which the companys lines run, are allof brick construction
