Congada or congado is an Afro-Brazilian cultural and religious manifestation. Very old folguedo, it constitutes a dramatic ballet with song and music that recreates the crowning of a king of Congo. It basically deals with three themes in its plot: the life of São Benedito; the encounter of the image of Nossa Senhora do Rosário submerged in the waters; and the representation of Carlos Magno's struggle against Moorish invasions.
