I becameanxious to see such a building arise as a Pro-testant land-mark of Christianity in a vast fieldof heathenism and general depravity of man-ners, and cheerfully gave my hand and myheart to perfect the work. I expected a willingco-operation from the Scotch settlers; but wasdisappointed in my sanguine hopes of theircheerful and persevering assistance, throughtheir prejudices against the English Liturgy, andthe simple rites of our communion.
