How many people are leaving London? Property websites have reported a jump in people looking for homes outside London since lockdown started. And figures show 349,296 people left London in the year to June 2019 - while 255,304 people moved to London. That was the highest number of people leaving London in the nine years of available data. It means London suffered a net loss of 93,992 people - or 258 a day, according to data from the Office for National Statistics. A report has found that 73,950 homes were bought this year by people moving out of London. That’s the highest number of purchases by people leaving the city since 78,170 people bought homes with the intent to move outside London in 2016. This is perhaps unsurprising given the changes the city has seen over the course of the pandemic.
