A mayfly, May fly, is delicately perched on the stem of a blossoming summer grass. The buds of the stem are perfectly in focus, and mirror the shape of the torso of the mayfly. The depth and hues of the colors give this image an animated, almost cartoonish feel. The depth of field is exaggerated by the macro view of the tiny insect. The blue sky contrasts perfectly with the green of the grass, and dark shadow, and the fleshy beige of the almost alien insect. The pose of the insect brings out something almost religious about this image. Summer wonder captivated at its finest moment.
