WATT, JAMES RODERICK : Pio-neer, (Special Brigade); son of James Watt, schoolmaster, Fearn ; bornthere, 8 February 1895 ; educated InvergordonAcademy, where he was Dux in Mathematics in1913 ; matriculated in Medicine, enlisted in U Company, 4th GordonHighlanders, in January 1914, and went withhis Battalion into training at Bedford, but partly 3i IN MEMORIAM. on. account of his youth, was left behind whenthe Battalion crossedto France. During1915 he acted asSpecial Guard on theClyde, and was for atime Medical Orderlyat Stobhill Hospital,Glasgow. Watt trans-ferred to the Special(Gas) Brigade, ,late in 1915, and wentto France early in1916. He was killed inaction onjhe Somme,30 June 1916. CONNER, FREDERIC ATTENBORROW :2nd Lieutenant, 2nd Battalion SeaforthHighlanders; son ofJames Conner, SheriffClerk Depute; bornAberdeen, 20 February1895 ; educated atAberdeen GrammarSchool; matriculatedin Agriculture in the University hewas a well-known andpopular figure. Hiscareer in Agriculturewas highly successfuland he looked forwardto specializing in Forestry. As an athlete andsportsman he was recognized as a brilliant all-round man. He was a valued member of theGrammar Rugby team and a prominentmember of the Aberdeenshire Cricket Club, andas a hobby his greatest pleasure was plying therod and
