Thelocking-bolt is moved by an eccentric attached to the cylinder. The notches on the sliders are disposed as irregularlyas possible, and false notches are added, with correspondingfalse widenings of slots in the plate. All of the sliders can bepushed in farther than is needed to bring the notches on a linewith the plate, so that the lock is picked with great difficulty. Cotterills lock, Figures 293, 294 and 295, is anotherexample of English ingenuity. The portion which is acted.
