Launched from a pontoon and gangway lowered over the side of the ship, a tender (lifeboat) transports passengers ashore at one of the ports visited by the cruise ship TSS Fairstar. This shot taken in 1984 from the promenade deck and yes, that's smoke and fumes from the diesel engine in the tender. Originally a British troop ship Oxfordshire she was converted to the Liner Fairstar (Sitmar) and travelled between England and Australia until 1974 when she began full time South Pacific cruises until her final voyage in 1997.
