St Govan's Chapel nestles against the Bell Rock (rear L) amongst steep cliffs: steps lead down to his former healing well. Irish Abbot Govan lived as a hermit here, died around AD586 and was buried under an ancient stone altar around which the C11th chapel with C13th stone roof was built. There are legendary connections with Sir Gawain, one of King Arthur's knights.
