Pig farming. Pig (Sus scrofa domestica) female with a litter of piglets in an outside shelter at a pig farm. Several outdoor breeding herds provide a continuous source of piglets that are reared on their mother's milk, weaned, and then raised in finishing units before being slaughtered for their meat. These are Cranswick pigs, being bred at the Dent Limited pig farm, in Pickering, North Yorkshire, UK. This farm is operated by David Neal, finalist in the 'Pig Farmer of the Year' category in the 2011 Farmers Weekly Awards.
