This is a costly job,usually involving the letter-board panel with the inside finish ofthe car as well. The steam car construction is much more costly,as plates and rails have to be in these cars at least 8 ft. longerthan would otherwise be necessary. The repair of the separatehood is a small matter, and its complete destruction does notnecessarily involve any injury to the body. The body of the car shows an interesting combination of steamand street car practice. As in street car work, there are nopanels between the windows, but a sort of compromise is posts are made in halves and hollowed out to take a tie-roddown through the center.
