Maud Leonora Menten (1879-1960), Canadian physician and biochemist. Menten studied at the University of Toronto, qualifying as a medical doctor in 1911, one of the first women to achieve this in Canada. She carried out research in Germany and obtained her research doctorate from the University of Chicago. Her work in Germany with Leonor Michaelis led to the Michaelis-Menten equation in biochemistry. This was one of a number of important contributions Menten made to enzyme kinetics, and she went on to make further discoveries in histochemistry. Her later career was mostly spent at the University of Pittsburgh from 1923 to 1950.
