He cast the first vote for the LibertyParty in Morris County, saying to the politicians: It is only one, gentlemen,but it will hatch. His life was a warfare with evil, doing battle with wrong forthe Lord, his King, at whatever odds. He died before victory came, but whenLincolns Proclamation was announced, many remembered the toils and prayersof Baxter Sayre, and were glad that he too had joy over it in heaven.
