Satellite construction material. Engineers silhouetted against a strong, but lightweight, material used in satellite construction. The material, called NIDA, is a composite material consisting of a layer of aluminium sandwiched between two carbon sheets. The honeycomb structure keeps the structure rigid, while the lightness of the material reduces the fuel needed to launch the satellites into space.
