The Battle of Buçaco or Bussaco, fought on 27 September 1810 during the Peninsular War in the Portuguese mountain range of Serra do Buçaco. The French force of 65,000 under the command of Marshal André Masséna attacked a force of 25,000 British and 25,000 Portuguese, who were placed in an excellent defensive position. The French forces attacked five times successively, failing each time, resulting in the defeat of French forces by Lord Wellington's Anglo-Portuguese
