Stony-iron meteorite. This polished slice of a meteorite that was found near Steinbach, Germany, shows a metallic matrix (grey) of nickel and iron interspersed with crystals of the mineral olivine (orange-green). Stony-iron meteorites are quite rare, most meteorites being either stony or metallic. This sample measures 55 millimetres across.
