Ohatsu Tenjin is a small Shinto shrine in the centre of Osaka and the the site of a tragic romantic legend, where couples can wish for lasting love. The offficial name is “Tsuyu no Tenjinj". Based on a actual double suicide that occurred within the the boundaries of the shrine in 1703, Chikamastu Monzaemon wrote a puppet show called “Sonezaki Shinju (Double Suicide). In tribute to the heroine “Ohatsu” the shrine became widely known as the “Ohatsu Tenjin”.
