Forming under fire of the enemys artillery, they advancedto the assault of the enemys intrenchments on Laurel Hill. TheTwenty-fourth Michigan was in the center of the Iron Brigade andthe Second and Seventh Wisconsin on its flanks. After a severecontest they had to fall back to the edge of the woods where theyreformed and again advanced, driving the enemy over the groundwhere they had just fought.
