The early painters of (Christian sub-jects represented Jesus clothed in this garment, -which theymade of aviolet or reddish hue, icith the result that peoplecame to the conclusion that the Saviour was in the habit oficearing a red robe and. as everyone kneiv that He hadsome blue in His costume, for the corners of the tallithor sacrcil mantle which all Jeivs wore in the Synagogueand in the Temple had to be blue, it became customaryto supplement the red garment of Christ with a bluemantle.
