After the treacherous and blood-thirsty usurper, Santa Anna, secured his power in Mexico heturned toward Texas for the purpose of satisfying his veng-eance by exterminating the colonists. His success in themassacre of Texan patriots at the Alamo and Goliad, gave himconfidence, and led him on to his ruin and doom. The declara-tion of Texas Independence, the general uprising of the peo-ple, and the glorious battle of San Jacinto, with the humiliat-ing capture of the tyrant, terminated the disturbances inTexas, and placed her among the respected powers of Dk.
