Lonesome George


Lonesome George (known as Solitario Jorge in spanish) is a Galapagos Giant Tortoise (scientific name:- Geochelone nigra abingdonii, synonym:- Geochelone elephantopus) whose subspecies is thought to be extinct in the wild. He was found on the island of Pinta in 1971. He is thought to be about 70-80 years old. Attempts to mate him with two females of a similar subspecies have so far been unsuccessful.
